Members of the public have a statutory right to access most board records under the Massachusetts Public Records Law (M.G.L. c. 66 § 10). The board will respond to every request within 10 business days of receipt.

What to expect

  • Initial response within 10 business days. We may provide the records, deny the request with statutory citation, or request additional time per c. 66 § 10(b)(vi).
  • Fees may apply for staff time and copying under c. 66 § 10(d). The first two hours of search time are free for non-commercial requesters.
  • Some records are exempt from disclosure under the 22 exemptions at M.G.L. c. 4 § 7(26). Where exemptions apply, we will tell you which clause and why.
  • You can appeal a denial to the Supervisor of Records under c. 66 § 10A.
